Government of Canada supports The Wallacetown Agricultural Society  through the Tourism Relief Fund

The Wallacetown Agricultural Society  received $75000  from Ontario’s Southwest Regional Tourism Organization through FedDev Ontario to attract visitors and support future growth.

December, 2022  Wallacetown, Ontario

The tourism sector is vital to the economy and jobs in Ontario’s Southwest. The addition of our accessible/ gender neutral washrooms and conversion to LED lighting will not only impact accessibility but the environment.

Today, The Wallacetown Agricultural Society eceived a non-repayable contribution of $75,000 from Ontario’s Southwest Regional Tourism Organization to fulfill our commitment to 100% accessibility and lower our carbon footprint.  This is part of an overall Government of Canada investment of over $78 million, which includes an almost $10-million top up to FedDev Ontario’s original $68.5-million contribution for 11 Regional Tourism Offices and Indigenous Tourism Ontario.

This Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) investment will help the Wallacetown Agricultural Society adapt and recover to attract new visitors and drive economic growth in Elgin County

The Wallacetown Agricultural Society was a recipient of an Ontario Trillium Fund Grant in the amount of $51,500 to improve Accessibility to all our buildings by portable ramps and upgrades to our Commercial and Cattle Barn Washrooms with Touchless Fixtures and accessible sinks. We are pleased to state that we have completed the funding requirements. Response from patrons of the fair were exceptional and all ramps and fixtures were well used. Pictured below is the ribbon cutting on one of our new installed ramps.

Stan Duncanson ( pictured on the right) was lost to us on August 25, 2020.

Stan was a past president of Wallacetown Agricultural Society and past president of the Ontario  Association of Agricultural Societies and organized and called the races for many years at the local Fairs. He was very involved in the Community for many years. His committment to promoting agricultural awareness and guidance on the fairboard prompted the society to always further our agricultural roots.  He will be missed by many and we thank him for his service and dedication.
